Foods to Promote Weaning

Foods to Promote Weaning
mother and baby

When it comes to weaning, there are no rules. Some moms may choose that they never want to breastfeed, while others nurse well into toddlerhood. Both are perfectly normal and need to be accepted in our society. Moms get hated on for not nursing long enough, while others get hate for nursing too long. It's just a never-ending thing and no one can make everyone happy. So regardless of when or why you are weaning, be confident in your choice and know that you are a rockstar.

Foods to help decrease supply:

  1. Sage- sage is often hidden in many delicious foods! Mashed potatoes with sage are a huge hit in my family if you want to give that a go!
  2. Peppermint- you can put peppermint in lots of things, even drinks! Try some peppermint tea for a tasty and refreshing treat
  3. Caffeine- go ahead and bring back coffee in your life. Coffee, green or black tea....go for it!

Cold Cabbage Leaves

I was taught about this back in nursing school. It is a real thing. Place cold cabbage leaves in your bra and it miraculously helps reduce your milk. I do not believe that it helps to eat the cabbage..haha. But stick it in your bra!!!

Cold therapy

This obviously is not food-related, but I just thought that I would mention that cold temperature helps. If you don't have cold cabbage on deck, just throw some ice packs in your bra. DO NOT put heat, as heat promotes the production.

I hope these tips are helpful! Happy weaning!
