Vanilla Breastmilk Frosting
Make frosting with your extra breastmilk.
This is a fun family favorite! It is easy to make and great for homemade cakes and cupcakes! It is definitely NOT healthy, as it is still loaded with powdered sugar like most frostings are. But hey, breastmilk is healthy right?? So it's gotta be healthier than some of those other frostings! haha. I tell myself this to make me feel better. Regardless, this is yet another way to utilize some of that soon-to-expire milk that would otherwise be tossed. Your babies will thank you!
Ingredients:
- 2-3 ounces of breastmilk
- 2 sticks of unsalted butter (softened)
- 3.5 cups of powdered sugar
- Vanilla to taste (I prefer pure ground vanilla, but you can also use pure vanilla extract). We are a vanilla-loving family, so we always go pretty hefty and never measure it!
Instructions:
- Using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar! I generally keep the mixer on medium speed and scrape down the sides intermittently to ensure everything is getting combined.
- After all of the sugar has been thoroughly mixed in, add the vanilla.
- Finally, add the breastmilk until you have reached your desired consistency. Some people prefer thicker frosting for piping and will therefore use less milk, while others prefer their frosting light and easy to spread.
- ENJOY!
